week one route: mull – gairloch
The route does not take the obvious route to Mallaig – with no roads through Knoydart to the north, a long ferry journey would have been required to rejoin the road network on the other side of the peninsula, and the route instead takes the long inland detour to Kinloch Hourn, where a shorter ferry trip connects with Arnisdale.
